Airsoft Pistols – Electric Airsoft Pistols Vs. Spring Airsoft Pistols

by John King on October 14, 2009

If you are reading this article, you are probably curious to know the differences between these two types of airsoft pistols.  You might have already noticed a considerable price difference between electric airsoft pistols and spring airsoft pistols.  This is due mainly in part because of the more costly parts inside of an electric airsoft pistol (i.e. the motor, battery, etc.), as opposed to the spring airsoft pistol comprised of mainly a spring that needs to be cocked before every shot.

Spring Airsoft Pistols – Before making a decision into buying a Spring airsoft pistol I think it would be better for me to point out your biggest set back, which will be having to re-cock your pistol after every shot to load the spring. A spring airsoft pistol will definately not be anyones primary weapon of choice in a airsoft game nor will it probably be a secondary (backup) weapon.  Spring airsoft pistols can be found as cheap as $10, but its uses will be limited since you probably will not want to use the pistol in a airsoft game.

Electric Airsoft Pistols - An electric airsoft pistol on the other hand will allow you to shoot your electric airsoft gun in semi-automatic (depending on the electric airsoft pistol).  This meaning that after you shoot an airsoft bb, the next bb will already be cocked and loaded into the chamber for you (all this done by a electric motor).  Most electric airsoft pistols you buy today are also fully automatic, meaning you can hold down the trigger and it will keep shooting until you run out of airsoft bbs.

If you are just beginning in the sport of Airsoft and looking to buy an airsoft gun I would really recommend getting an electric airsoft rifle first.  But if you are in the market for a airsoft pistol, I would say to jump straight into an electric airsoft pistol.

Many will advise you as a beginner to buy a spring airsoft pistol because of their lower cost.   You can always start with an spring airsoft pistol and move your way up.  The one major advantage you will find about a spring airsoft pistol is its reliability, since it does not have to depend on any kind of external power source.  With a Spring airsoft gun you are less likely to be affected by extreme weather conditions and water or moisture which could greatly affect the performance of an electric airsoft gun.  There is no doubt that you will end up paying less, but sooner or later you will end up upgrading to a spring airsoft pistol.  You will quickly notice that electric airsoft pistols will have much more accuracy and power for long range use, but don’t feel bad most airsoft players have started out with spring airsoft guns and backyard skrimishes!
